Time for a Bathroom Makeover

Besides your kitchen, the bathrooms in your home probably get the most use. Not only is it nice to step into a clean, modern bathroom, but also giving this room a makeover will increase the value of your home and you will see a return when it's time to sell. Below are five ideas to brighten up your morning routine and make you feel like you're stepping into a spa.

1.  Refinish Your Tub

After a while, every white bathtub starts to look a little dingy. Hiring a professional to refinish your tub could cost upwards of $300. Don't spend the big bucks when you can do it yourself. You can purchase a refinishing kit at your local hardware store for around $30.

2.  Install His & Her Showerheads

If your shower is large enough, then install custom his and her showerheads. Put one up high for him and install a steam head for her. You'll never have to wait on one another to get out before you can get in. Everyone is happy!

3.  Find Space Between the Studs

Having a place to put your shampoo, soaps or even a rubber ducky is priceless in any shower or bath. Not only is it annoying to constantly knock bottles off the ledge of the tub, but it is also dangerous. They could trip you and cause you to slip and injure yourself. Take advantage of the space between the studs by creating inset shelves to hold your toiletries.

4.  Upgrade Your Water Heater

If you're having hot water issues, then it's worth the investment to upgrade your water heater. Or for a more eco-friendly option, you could add on a tankless water heater to provide instant hot water on demand. This saves energy and money because your heater isn't trying to maintain a large amount of water at a high temperature.

5.  Brighten Up Your Bathroom

Natural light in a bathroom makes a huge difference. While most people don't want to put in a large window for privacy reasons, there is another option- install a skylight. Skylights provide natural light without you having to worry about surprising the neighbors. Buy one that opens and you can help vent steam to avoid moisture issues.
